For some reason, the heart is working too hard, and much like a muscle in your arm or leg, if you're working hard lifting weights, the muscle will thicken and grow over time. Most commonly, that kind of enlargement is seen in those who are middle aged or older and have high blood pressure or perhaps an aortic valvular problem called aortic stenosis (a blocked aortic valve).
A schematic representation of a typical PBPK model is shown in Figure 1.
