Retina surgery Retina is a light sensitive thin layer tissues that lies at the back of your eye near the optic nerve. It covers the inside of the back two-third of the eyeball. It converts light that enters your eye into electric signals and then sends these signals to the brain that makes you enable to see the world. Retina plays an important role in your vision. But sometimes, there is some issues occur with retina that leads to retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a condition in which retina lifts away from the back of the eye and you experience blurry vision. Retinal detachment is treated by the surgery. Early signs or symptoms of retinal detachment • A shadow forming in your peripheral vision • Seeing flashing of light suddenly • Lots of new floaters (small flecks or threads in your eyes) • Darkness or grey curtain covering your vision Cause and types of retinal detachment • Rhegmatogeneous :- due to eye injury, surgery, or myopia(nearsightedness) • Tractional:- blood vessels in your eyes are damaged due to diabetes • Exudative:- due to conditions like eye injury, inflammation or age related macular degeneration Types of retinal detachment surgery • Laser or freezing • Pneumatic retinopexy • Sclera buckle • Vitrectomy Rare complications after retinal detachment surgery • Fogging of the lens in your eyes • Bleeding • Eye infection • High pressure inside your eye
